Trivia

Shoga is the combination of calligraphy writing and a painting with beautiful shapes. Its charm is that it has a variety of fonts and rich brushstrokes that mix with paintings.  By writing a kanji or hiragana model with a brush, it is possible to have completely different expressions such as strength, delicacy, glamor, even with the same letters. By just changing the paper on which you write the expression will also differ.

The landowner of shoga Kukai, who was active in the early Heian period, emperor Saga and Tachibana are the three famous people of shoga. After that other people were chosen als elite shoga artists because of their beautiful handwriting in each era such as Ono Toufu in the Heian period, Honami Koetsu in the Edo period and Kusakabe Kimbei in the Meiji period.
