DETAILS

Learn the history of Tokoname City, the producing area of world famous Tokoname pottery, which also happens to be one of the oldest types of pottery in Japan! Once you have received a brief introduction about the city at the station, we will take you on a tour of Manekineko Street. Tokoname City is the largest producer of Manekineko (fortune cat) in Japan, and the street is decorated with cute Manekineko made by various artists.

After enjoying the Manekineko, we will visit the Takita old shipping family residence. In the past, Tokoname pottery and other products were sent from Tokoname City to Tokyo. The Takita old shipping family is said to have been responsible for the logistics. Come and learn about the history of the Takita family and the traditional Japanese houses.

After leaving the Takita family residence, you will visit the best photo spots the city has to offer, including the Dokan-slope and the climbing kiln. It is said that leftover pottery was buried in the ground to prevent landslides at the Denden-slope and Dokan-slope. Stroll around and get a glimpse of the ingenuity of the people of the past!
At the end, you will visit a Tokoname pottery studio, and watch a professional work.
