Naruko Onsen is a hot spring resort that developed after the eruption of Mount Naruko in 837 and has 374 hot springs, which together with the neighboring areas provide 9 of the 11 types of hot springs in Japan. It is one of the three most famous hot springs in Tohoku, along with Iizaka Onsen and Akiu Onsen. In the surrounding area, the unique and beautiful nature created by the hot springs changes its appearance from season to season, making it a popular destination for both Japanese and foreign tourists.
In this plan, you can try your hand at painting kokeshi dolls at Okazaki Sai's Shop, a kokeshi doll shop in Naruko. Kokeshi dolls are simple wooden dolls with spherical heads and cylindrical bodies that are painted, originating from the Tohoku region. Kokeshi dolls, with their round shape and exotic atmosphere, are sure to be appreciated as souvenirs when you return home.
