【DETAILS】

Visit the island Omishima in Ehime prefecture, which is located in the heart of the Seto Inland Sea to learn the deep historical culture of Oyamadumi Shrine, the largest shrine in Omishima, through active experiences such as cycling and trekking.

Oyamadumi Shrine, the focal point of this tour, enshrines Oyamadumi Mikoto, the older brother of Amaterasu Omikami, the highest-ranking Japanese god. Therefore, the shrine is regarded as a venerable place that has been given the title of "Japan's total guardian" (= shrine that protects Japan) since ancient times. Enjoy the beautiful unspoiled landscape of Seto Islands along with the changes the way of the people’s lives in Omishima centered on the belief of Oyamadumi Shrine.

Miyaura Port, the start point, was an important base for maritime transportation during the samurai era.

View the large shrine gate in front of the harbor and cycle along the approach to Oyamadumi Shrine.

The approach leading from "Ichino Torii", which is the official entrance of Oyamadumi Shrine, to the shrine is busy with many ships and worshipers entering the port from Miyaura Port, and was once lined with souvenir shops and restaurants. Since the opening of the Shimanami Kaido, known as one of the best places for cycling in Japan, there are currently no passenger ships served at Miyaura Port. Nowadays, migrants are opening shops related to the area, and you can enjoy where the present and the old coexist. However, it clearly shows that the area has developed around Oyamadumi Shrine and maritime transportation.

Once arriving at Oyamadumi Shrine, get off your bicycle, tour the site, and worship.

You will learn the history of Oyamadumi Shrine from the guide.

When you dive into the profound main gate, you will see a large camphor tree with a strong presence.

The camphor is a sacred tree of Oyamadumi Shrine and is said to be 3,000 years old.

It is also considered as a power spot, and there is a legend that your wish will come true if you hold your breath and make three laps around you. Why don't you try it as a memory of your trip to the shrine that watches over Japan?

Worship at the front shrine of Oyamadumi Shrine, which is also designated as an important cultural property. It is said that military commanders used to visit here to pray for and show gratitude for victory.

Oyamadumi Shrine, where many people have long prayed for safety as the stage of the Great Battle in Setouchi and as a key point of maritime transportation. Today, many cyclists visit here to pray for traffic safety.

You can also receive a formal traffic safety prayer in the front shrine, which is an important cultural property. (*additional charges apply.)

In addition, about 80% of the armor that has been designated as a national treasure and national important cultural property of Japan is preserved and exhibited in the "Treasure Museum" of Oyamadumi Shrine.

The armor is the best preserved in Japan, and Japan's oldest Heian period (8-12th century) armor is also on display. Hence, Omishima is called "National Treasure Island".

(*additional charges apply.)

After worshiping and greeting one of the Gods, you will experience trekking.

Walk to the top of the mountain while enjoying the spectacular view of the beauty of Tajima.

It takes about 30 minutes to reach the summit of Mt. Anjin.

A special time awaits you once you reach the summit. A barista who inherits one of the best techniques in Japan, will brew coffee for you at the top of the mountain.

Enjoying a barista's coffee while admiring the spectacular view from the top of the mountain will be a blissful time. * We refrain from using disposable items to protect the beautiful nature of Omishima. The coffee will be served to your own bottle/cup if you bring your own.

Finally, enjoy the exhilaration downhill to the foot of the mountain!

Experience the history and rich nature of Omishima which is yet to be known by many.

* The finishing time of the tour will change for those who wish to "visit the treasure hall (1 hour)" and "pray experience (20 minutes)".
