Setting Sail from Miyahama Onsen: Explore Miyajima & Its Untouched Western Coast on a Short Cruise

【STORY】

■Experience a brief encounter with the 1500-year history of the Nanaura Meguri (Seven Shrines Tour)!
The surroundings of Miyajima boast a size approaching the top 10 in the Seto Inland Sea, with approximately 30 km and 700 islands. While Miyajima is strongly associated with Itsukushima-jinja Shrine, along its coastline, numerous shrines are scattered, and visiting the shrines in the seven inlets is referred to as the Nanaura Meguri.

Derived from the legend that the deity of Itsukushima-jinja Shrine circled the island, seeking a place to settle, visitors to Itsukushim-jinja Shrine would traditionally perform the ritual of the Nanaura Meguri by visiting the seven shrines, purifying their mind and body.

In this special plan, we will visit two shrines, Mitoko-jinja Shrine and Suyaura-jinja Shrine, surrounded by the untouched nature of the western coast of Miyajima, located just across from Miyahama Onsen. Particularly, Mitoko-jinja Shrine has a legend that during the construction of Itsukushima-jinja Shrine in the era of Empress Suiko(593-628), the deity was temporarily enshrined here until the shrine was built, and the goddess stayed here as well.

Moreover, it is said that even Toyotomi Hideyoshi participated in the tour. Experience it while contemplating the individuals who shaped Japan's history.

■The captain of this tour is Okushin-san, who owns Oku Shin-sanbashi(pier), the entrance to the sea, in Miyahama Onsen
The pier, located just across the road from Miyahama Onsen, has been operated as a shipyard for generations by Okushin-san, who also serves as the captain of this tour. In addition to the regular ferry service for anglers, he is well acquainted with the sea off Miyahama Onsen. It is said that customers come from the Kansai region to fish in these waters. You might also hear some interesting stories about this sea area, so please look forward to it!
