■ Was the World Heritage Island actually a sacred island? Explore the Mystery of Miyajima!
Miyajima, famous as a World Heritage island, has long been called the "Island of Gods." The origin of this faith is said to be the sensing of spiritual energy in the island's form, leading people to offer prayers. When you ride on the boat and look closely at the peaks of Miyajima from the waters near Itsukushima-jinja Shrine, you can see the island's shape resembling the reclining figure of the Goddess of Mercy (Kannon). What kind of figure can you see?

■ The Nanaura Meguri (Seven Shrine Tour) with a 1500-Year History
The surroundings of Miyajima boast a size approaching the top 10 among the Seto Inland Sea's 700 islands, covering about 30 km. While Miyajima is strongly associated with Itsukushima-jinja Shrine, along its coastline, numerous shrines (commonly known as Nanaura Shrines) are scattered. The practice of visiting these shrines in the seven inlets is known as Nanaura Meguri. This tradition originates from the legend that the deity of Itsukushima-jinja Shrine circled the island, searching for a place to settle, leading people to follow suit. Visitors to Itsukushima-jinja Shrine would circumnavigate the island, visiting the seven shrines, as part of the purifying ritual called Oshima Meguri or Nanaura Meguri.

The Nanaura Meguri has a history dating back 1500 years, serving as a ritual for purifying the mind and body. Embark on this journey, and think about the individuals who shaped Japan's history.
