【STORY】

A rickshaw, as the name suggests, is a "cart pulled by human power." Rickshaws are said to have originated in Japan and became a popular mode of transportation across the country because they were cheaper than riding horses for people in the past.

By the end of the 19th century, over 200,000 rickshaws were in use, but their numbers gradually declined with the development of railways and automobiles.

Asakusa is a famous tourist spot for rickshaws in the Kanto region.

Asakusa has suffered significant damage in historical events such as the Great Kanto Earthquake and the Tokyo air raids. During the Great Kanto Earthquake, approximately 40% of Tokyo was destroyed by fire, and it is said that 90% of Asakusa was also lost to fire, but some parts, including Sensoji Temple, Hanamachi (a town where you can enjoy performances such as geisha dances in a tatami room.), and traditional bars, still remain today.

In this tour, we will not only tour the town of Asakusa by rickshaw but also provide guidance on its valuable history and culture. The guides from Tokyo Rickshaw, stand out with their distinctive red attire among the numerous rickshaws.

With the desire to create special memories of Asakusa just for you, our unique rickshaw pullers, filled with smiles and energy, will take you around historic landmarks.

Explore the historically rich town of Asakusa with the traditional Japanese culture of rickshaws.
