Aizu-Wakamatsu | Where the true spirit of the samurai still lives on
Centered around Tsuruga Castle, Aizuwakamatsu offers a deep dive into samurai heritage.
At the historic Aizu Clan School Nisshinkan, visitors can experience zazen meditation and Kyūdō to immerse themselves in the samurai spirit, and meet descendants of samurai to see how these traditions continue in modern life.

●Aizu Clan Schoo Nisshinkan
A prestigious samurai school founded in 1803 during the Edo period for the education of young warriors of the Aizu Domain. Today, the restored school and museum showcase samurai education, philosophy, and daily life through reconstructed buildings, historical exhibits, and cultural demonstrations.

Known for its strict discipline and emphasis on loyalty, morality, and academic excellence, Nisshinkan played an important role in shaping the spirit and values of the samurai. Visitors can experience the historical atmosphere and gain deeper insight into the enduring legacy of Aizu samurai culture.

-Suiren Water Training Pond: Japan’s first swimming pool, where samurai trained in swimming techniques, including armored swimming (katchu-eiho).
-Buko Martial Hall: A training facility where samurai studied military strategy and battlefield tactics.
