【Details】

ORIZURU TOWER is a place like no other.  The wood-decked observatory is surrounded with a grid covering from which the natural wind blows through the entire space.  The observatory gives a fine view of the Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome, and as far as Mt. Misen in Miyajima on sunny days.  Feeling the sound and the scent of Hiroshima of today, enjoy a panoramic view of the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in a single frame.  The observatory houses a take-out cafe.  It’s a perfect place to relax with a drink and snack while looking at the townscape of Hiroshima.

It may look like the entrance of an attraction in the amusement park.  Are you getting excited? Take an elevator to the roof floor.  The Spiral Slope connected to the rooftop is made of wood and filled with chic atmosphere.

The observatory has a broad and open space.  The observatory, made with Hinoki (Japanese cypress) and cedar, gives off aromatic smell especially on rainy and humid days.  You  can spend a relaxing time surrounded by the scent of wood.  Since it is made like a hill with a difference in height, you can choose your favorite place to sit on such as a slope or a step.  It is especially romantic in the night when a beautiful night view can be seen from there.

There is the "Akushu" Cafe on the roof floor where you can drink alcoholic beverages too.  It is nice to have a toast seeing the view in a leisurely way. On a sunny day, you can see as far as Miyajima.  It is a rare spot where you can see the two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Genbaku Dome and Miyajima.

If you look at the Atomic Bomb Dome from above, you can clearly see the remaining debris in it.You may find the scenery hard to explain with words with the misery of the war and the hope of "recovery."  “Hiroshima Hill” is a lovely space where you can spend hours while feeling the wind and sound of the present Hiroshima.  Both the locals and visitors can enjoy the townscape of Hiroshima from a different angle loosing track of time.

At “Orizuru Square,”  do not forget to throw orizuru you made into the Orizuru Wall which is a huge 50-meter tall glass case. Orizuru Wall is designed to be filled with orizuru carrying wishes of people around the world for world peace.  Don't you think it is wonderful?   If you throw your orizuru, it will whirl down and down.  It will be an unforgettable scene and you cannot help taking pictures.  The Orizuru Square houses many counters with different heights where you can make orizuru by yourself.  Don’t worry  if you haven’t made one before.  You can learn how to make orizuru by watching the video and the commentary drawing.

If you stand in front of the huge monitor, countless origami would get together and shape your avatar on the screen.  See the numerous origami floating in the shining white virtual space.  Those origami will react to your “color” and create a mysterious world like a coupled mirror.

It is an experience to play with origami and fold orizuru virtually projected on the huge screen.  Put your hands in the air, move your body and fold colorful orizuru.

You can walk down on the slope step by step from the observatory to the first floor.  Exhibited along the Spiral Slope is an original art work describing the historical transition of Hiroshima by a famous manga artist.  Enjoy walking while seeing the picture.  And a slide is installed at the center of the Spiral Slope.  Anyone from adults to children can enjoy sliding down the long slide.  This is all for the experience.  How did you enjoy it?  We are looking forward to seeing you again.

【Trivia】

The first atomic bomb in human history was dropped on Hiroshima at 8:15 am on August 6, 1945 We do not know exactly how many people died, but it is estimated that about 140,000 people died by the end of 1945 when the acute radiation  injuries ceased. In addition, handicaps due to radiation have been plaguing people for a long time afterwards.Immediately after the atomic bombing about Hiroshima it was said that  "no plants will grow 75 years," but gradually with the power of citizens, construction of houses, restart of schools, establishment of lifelines, supply of energy the reconstruction began. etc.A bit later, Hiroshima's urban development progressed through the established Hiroshima reconstruction city plan.Originally, due to lack of financial resources due to the population reduction, it did not progress as planned, but after the establishment of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial City Construction Law, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial City Construction Plan was born, based on which the Peace Memorial Park was established. In addition, many parks, riverbanks, roads, sewers, etc. were maintained. There was also assistance from domestic and overseas and urban planning is still in progress.

【Nearby area introduction】

Speaking of Hiroshima souvenirs, standard items are Momiji Manju, oysters or onomichi ramen. But here we will introduce other souvenirs as well. First of all,  "Hitotsubu's Muscat" from Kyougakudo. It is a Japanese sweet with the highest grade Muscat and Alexandria. The crispy texture and the juicy musky Muscat are outstanding. Next is Setoda Lemon Cake "Shima gokoro". It is a handmade cake in which lemon peels are used and  its head office in Setoda Town, Hiroshima Prefecture, the largest origin of  Japan's lemons. Homemade lemon jam is incorporated in the dough and you can fully enjoy the scent of lemon. It is a gem that has won numerous awards such as the 3rd National Hometown Koshien Grand Prix.Apart from confectionery, you should try Tokunaga Tofu "Japan's spiciest Etajima Onikubo Tofu".It looks like ordinary white tofu but you will be surprised when trying it. A shocking kind of hotness spreads throughout the mouth. Its secret is "Golden Ichiba" which is said to be the hottest spicy in Japan, ten times as hot as red peppers. It is not only spicy but also the smooth in your mouth, so after you tasted it you might become addicted.
