【OUTLINE】

Uncover the charms and history of Nagasaki, an important port town in the late 19th century. The city is well known for its exotic mixture of Western, Chinese, and Japanese culture. Cycle around the south area of the city which a mixture of international culture influence remains. This tour starts from Café & Petit Hostel “ROUTE” (15-minute walk from Nagasaki Station).

【SCHEDULE】

Choose from two start times, 9:00 or 13:30.

[9:00 / 13:30] Meet up & Introduction (Bicycle, course of the tour, etc.)

[9:20 / 13:50] Depart from ROUTE. Visit Nakamachi Church featuring a mixture of Japanese and Western cultures. Dejima used to be the only gateway to Japan under the isolationist policy during the Edo period. Watch from outside and think back to the period.

[10:00 / 14:30] Go down to the port where you can see the World Heritage sites. Look at the beautiful contrast between the green of the park and the blue of the sea.

[10:30 / 15:00] Vist the Dutch Slope, filled with exotic and picturesque moods. We will tell you some stories about Christians in hiding and the life of foreigners at the time. Try to climb up the steep slope (up to 20 degrees).

[11:00 / 15:30] Visit Minato Koen located at the end of Chinatown. We will tell you about how the Chinese in Nagasaki lived and Chinese culture influenced Nagasaki.

[11:45 / 16:15] Go down to the old downtown area. Visit the Meganabashi-bridge and Tera-machi. Get a feeling for how they lived back then.

[12:15 / 16:45] Standing on the modern street, we will look back on the tour and think of the historical background of Nagasaki. Visit Suwa Shrine, the major Shinto shrine of Nagasaki. We will tell you the histories leading up to the present day.

[12:30 / 17:00] Go back to ROUTE.


【DETAILS】

The Glover Garden, old churches, and Chinese Temple give Nagasaki a international atmosphere and creates a unique culture in Japan. We are going to explore the historical background and hidden places normally not seen by tourists. 

Soko-iko's cycling tour takes you around some historical ruins and fascinating spots of the 1500s to the present day which blends in with the modern landscape of Nagasaki.

Our local guides are very friendly. They will make you feel like you are going with friends on a tour. Nagasaki will feel like your second home!
