【DETAILS】
Daisho-in Temple, said to be one of the three most important temples in Japan for getting rid of bad luck and opening the door to good fortune, is the temple with the deepest history of any temple on Miyajima. It is said that Kobo Daish/Kukai, after returning from Tang Dynasty China, went to Miyajima to practice asceticism at Mt. Misen, and founded the temple in 806.
Gumonji refers to a practice that originated in Shingon esoteric Buddhism to receive a portion of the wisdom of Kokuzo Bosatsu, a Buddha who is endowed with wisdom and good fortune. It is said that by chanting the sutra called "darani" one million times, one can obtain a part of his wisdom.
Kukai successfully completed this ascetic practice for 100 days on Miyajima's highest peak, Mt. Misen. In this plan, you will learn about Gumonji and the history of Daisho-in Temple from a monk who inherited his spirituality.
Located at the foot of Daisho-in Temple, we will guide you to a special practice at “Maniden,” the “guardian deity of Mt.
